As part of the “Wekerle, Naturally!” urban biodiversity programme within the Co-Bio project, a drawing competition titled “Do Animals Live at Your Place?” invited children and young people -from kindergarten to high school- to reflect creatively on the animals that share our urban environment.
The competition received many imaginative entries from participants aged 5 to 18, inspired by a wide variety of animal species. The submitted artworks offered unique and heartfelt perspectives on the presence of wildlife in the city. The jury faced a difficult task, as many of the entries stood out for their creativity and charm.
The exhibition was officially opened on 24 May 2025 at the Wekerle Community Centre with an award ceremony and we closed the event with a community fern planting in the centre’s garden.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about urban biodiversity from a young age and to encourage a deeper connection between children and the natural world around them. It complements the wider Co-Bio programme’s efforts to promote nature-friendly practices and community engagement in urban settings.
