We kicked off the month with an engaging event about bats, led by zoologist and bat expert Ágnes Nagy, who introduced participants of all ages to the world of bats through interactive games and tools. She held a captivating morning presentation about the fascinating lives of bats, followed by an evening bat walk, where participants set out to observe them and listen to their calls using a bat detector. Although the evening bat walk did not result in sightings due to windy weather, we are planning a second walk later this month and are also inviting local residents to install bat houses in their gardens to support these remarkable creatures.
In parallel, we launched the “1 m² for Nature” initiative, providing residents with free seed packets containing pollinator-friendly flower mixes. The goal is to encourage the creation of mini wildflower meadows and build a visible network of small-scale urban habitats across Wekerletelep. These patches will be mapped online to raise awareness and help protect them from accidental mowing.
Stay tuned for more upcoming activities this spring!
