On a recent occasion, the Budapest Public Transport Company hosted an engaging lecture delving into innovative sustainability strategies for urban mobility. The event was led by presenters from Corvinus University and GreenFormation. With 60 mostly online enthusiastic participants from across the company, the atmosphere was lively and collaborative as new perspectives sparked discussion and curiosity. The lecture focused on the “Budapest Degrowth Donut” framework, a visionary approach for balancing city development with planetary boundaries and social wellbeing, moving beyond mere GDP growth. Attendees explored the complexity of sustainability challenges and learned why radical change is needed not just within infrastructure, but also in mindset and daily operations.
A spotlight was also placed on DAISY, a Horizon Europe research project co-coordinated by GreenFormation, which aims to foster transformative change for biodiversity and equity by supporting and amplifying local transformation seed cases in five EU countries. Within the Budapest Degrowth Dounut case, DAISY will facilitate the evaluation of biodiversity-relevant indicators and promote the integration of these concepts into local as well as higher level development strategies.
Feedback from the 60 participants made clear that the event’s interactive format and practical examples were well received. The Budapest Public Transport Company’s commitment to sustainability innovation continues, now strengthened by new knowledge and partnerships with DAISY, Corvinus University, and GreenFormation.
