On October 17th, a local democracy workshop at one of Budapest’s community houses celebrates the growing role of participatory tools and democratic innovation in Hungary. Our colleague, György Pataki, represents GreenFormation during the first session dedicated to participatory knowledge production and decision-making, sharing valuable insights on how research driven by stakeholders can foster meaningful change for wider communities. The event showcases leading Hungarian practitioners and citizens working to develop new institutions and ensure more voices shape public matters beyond elections, continuing momentum in participatory democracy after recent years of renewed local initiatives. Among the workshop’s contributors is Internép, our Hungarian partner in the EMCCINNO project, dedicated to advancing climate transition through art-based methods and community placemaking initiatives.
Internép plays a vital role in the EMCCINNO project by leading a dynamic placemaking initiative on Budapest’s Népszínház Street, an area known for its rich multicultural history and urban vibrancy. Through a series of workshops, creative events, and community collaborations, Internép revitalizes public spaces and fosters inclusive dialogue among residents, artists, and local stakeholders. Their ongoing work transforms the street into a hub of innovation and cultural exchange, embodying EMCCINNO’s broader mission of accelerating climate transition through creativity and community engagement. GreenFormation’s role in this process is to research, document and share the evolving methodologies emerging from EMCCINNO helping inspire similar placemaking and climate action initiatives throughout Europe.
